Institute for Patient-Centered Design, Inc.
The Design Competition:
In 2012, the Institute launched a design
competition to develop “The Patient
Empowered Room.” Design teams were invited
to submit ideas for empowering patients to
achieve desired outcomes by facilitating more
control over the care environment. The
winning submissions inspired our full-scale
patient room model, which was displayed at the
2012 Healthcare Design Conference in
Phoenix, Arizona.
Awards Ceremony:
On opening night of the 2012 Healthcare Design Conference, we introduced the full-scale model of The Patient Empowered Room at the Second Annual Patient-Centered Design Reception. Conference. Participants joined us for dinner as we explored the inpatient room model and networked with other leaders in the field. The top three design submissions were awarded.
